Dr. Raphael William Steele is the grandson of Dr. Marion D. Steele. His linage is through the second wife of Dr. Marion Steele. Ralph Steele was born March 18, 1890. He graduated from the University of Arkansas Medical School in 1916, was inducted into the Army Medical Corp and sent to France for the duration of WWI. During his tour of duty in the harsh conditions he developed rheumatoid arthritis. On his return he practiced in Decatur, Arkansas for a brief period, then in Gentry and Siloam Springs, Arkansas before going to Hot Springs seeking treatment for his arthritis. He retired in 1928, unable to continue in practice. He died in 1938 at the age of 48.
